The Alkaline Earth Metals and the Halogens

In this experiment, you will

1. Test the solubilty of several alkaline earth metal cations when paired with a variety of anions
2. Test the relative oxidizing power of the halogens (Cl₂, Br₂, and I₂)
3. Use the results of Part A to determine the cation in an unknown alkaline earth halide
4. Use the results of Part B to determine the anion in an unknown alkaline earth halide
